passed and was immediately put to work. He is now a Cable Splicer and I believe makes around $80 per week with more prospects of advancement. At the time they were staying with the Doctor so they started looking around for a house. They found what they wanted in Pico - 6 rooms (3 bedrooms. 1 bath. + 2 car garage.). Bought it under the GI Bill for $9800. Paid $600 down and the bank carries the house for $60 including taxes and insurance. These are very nice rooms not near as commodious or spacious as Bob and Kays but still very nice. This is a Stucco House with plastered walls and all the builder did was to paint the woodwork - they have to do the papering and other painting. In one respect they have an advantage and that is in the matter of loam. Originally their Tract had been a rhubarb field with a dry powdery soil that seemed to be bowing around all the time but as the property owners put in their lawns and adjoining walls it gradually settled down so that today they have a beautiful flower garden that will grown anything. Nobody grows vegetables out here. They now plan to put in a patio in the back garden . So while they definitely will go back for a visit to see their folks they just as definitely will come back. They in turn will start selling California and then more relatives will come to. To illustrate the growth of the part of California - Bob tells me that the City of Lakewood five years ago was nothing but farmland - a year ago they had 23,000 homes and a population of 100,00. It is now an Incorporated City and still growing. Sounds Fantastic but that's what the record shows. Back home @ 1:15 Am. Took the Babysitter (Bob's sister in law) back home and to bed to prepare for Disneyland tomorrow.
