Sunday July 24th
Sat down for a while to read the Sunday Paper and am enclosing herewith the Want Ad Section for Long Beach alone which is self explanatory. The man with a skill has no trouble getting work and the unskilled - if he will work -will have no trouble either. I neglected to mention before that I had visited the State Employment Office and introduced myself to the Manager. Mr. Toll. He recalled an APES Convention a couple of years ago and meeting some the Mass. folks but couldn't recall their names. They have the fluctuating help situation here with a basic work force and to which they add when business warrants and then let go again. All these workers are from a Civil Service List and advised at the time they are only hired in a temporary basis. Many of the help prefer working this way and even on a part time basis. His assistant gets $600 per month I didn't have the gall to ask him what his Salary was but I imagine about $8500. I asked him to show me the Continued Claims Set-Up and here they pay cash thru a Teller's Window after certification of a sort of B A Card that we formerly used. It was in the afternoon when I got there so there were no lines. Claim load
