We looked down into gorges so deep that you could hardly see the bottom with the water rushing thru. By contrast we went thru Canyons where the walls were so high that one could not see the top without getting out of the car.
The Bears were a never-ending source of interest. They are very smart cookies. They would sit nonchalantly by the road-very seldom more than one at a time as tho they had a regular assignment. If the car kept going they wouldn't get up - but if the car stopped they would amble over - stand on their hind feet, straight as a pole-and wait for something to eat. The Park Authorities warn against feeding or attempting to pet them because they still consider them wild animals that live off the land.
Each of the Park Centers have accomodations for Trailers - Tent Dwellers - with water and rest room facilities for folks who spend their entire vacation period here. Usually each Center has a general store-museum and restaurants. Prices were very reasonable in the restaurants and coffee shops. We left Yellowstone Park with many regrets . It was one of the high lights of our trip and we only wish we could spend much more time and follow the Guide Book. We read about Yellowstone and take it all with a grain of salt - but believe me everything about Yellowstone is true.
